bellies

belly.JPG

sue and alena came to show off some fine belly dancing tuesday night. they may come once a month and dance. they were really jiggling those bellies and jingling from their outfits. definitely a nice surprise to be out to get some pie on a tuesday night and come across something like this…. where else but lightnin’ salvage.

i should give a shout out to volta, the new coffee shop downtown, next to, across from, market street pub. that place has the best coffee in town. the owner knows what he’s doing and i might even have to say it’s got the best style in town… from the colors to the trim to the counters to the layout… definitely check this place out, even if you don’t like coffee. get a chocolate or a tea or maybe just a pastry, but this place is worth checking out. i’ve been twice and the last time we were offered some home made marshmallows to taste. how nice is that? where else will you find tea at the perfect temp and home made marshmallows?

speaking of volta, the owner said he got a pizza last week which was the best he ever had. my research lately also verifies that the pies are on the money down there at satchel’s and if it’s not right, just send it back to the kitchen and tell them to fix it.

the guys at work organized a basketball challenge with big lou’s pizza. i was out of town for the big game but word on the street is that big lou’s beat us, twice. oh well, maybe our guys are too busy perfecting their pizza skills to get the practice they need at the hoop. word on the street also has it that big lou’s beat mark’s us prime. just trying to fill you in on the local restaurant gossip, you know, for water cooler discussions.

videos

this is the first of a series of 3 videos. this is what the place looked like in early 2003. i closed for 1 week before opening and turning it into a work in progress. the second video is more current footage of the place, but i realized that i need much more video of customers and LSE to really make a more powerful “after” short. so, the 3rd one will hopefully be a better version of current conditions up there at satchel’s. i’ve been busy learning the basics of film and editing, and now i think i might have a chance to put together a less shaky, more streamlined short. we’ll see. i’ve got a lot of other things on my list ahead of making a new video. here’s the 2nd in the series:

in brief

i do love these 2. she’s beautiful, he’s so smart and kind.

on another note, joey says that there are 755,160 different combinations of mama pizzas that could be made. seems like we have made them all. i think i made a rare one the other night, anchovies, pineapple, banana peppers and feta… hmmm.

i don’t have much to say. i mean, i have a lot i could say, but i don’t want to get into it. suffice it to say, it was a hard weekend for me.

however, on a bright note, the pizzas are as good as ever.

klezmer kats and graduation weekend

klezmer.JPG
i have probably showed a picture of them before, but here they are from last wednesday night performance, the klezmer kats. they did it again, as they always do, pleasing the crowds and me, and playing some wonderful music. they will be back may 14th, along with photographers from southern living, so come out and support your local pizzeria and klezmer band.
ahhh, graduation week. the busiest week of the year for us. students come out all week and get their last pie or show their relatives the wacky and inventive lightnin’ salvage. the spring builds and builds until this very week, and then finally friday and saturday. it was a great time. the only mistake we made friday night was forgetting tomatoes on the last pizza of the night. and tonight, saturday, there wasn’t a single mistake at all. not only did we not mess up anything, but the pies were some of the best looking ones i’ve ever seen. just when i’d think they might be ready to come out of the oven, i’d let them cook another minute and crisp them up to perfection. i mean to tell you, these were the best pies ever going out tonight. if you were at satchel’s then you know what i’m talking about.
we did break our record for the busiest night ever friday night, and the busiest day ever saturday day. the crew all did an outstanding job, so well in fact, that i gave every one of them 2 full days off. they can rest and relax now until tuesday.
if you didn’t make it in this week, there’s still next week. i didn’t think the pies could get any better but they did tonight. i’m sure next week they will just keep on making the grade. i also think the new super wal-mart opens next week so while you’re out checking that out, come on by and see us.
